Pro-Biome Fermented Plant Extract (FPE)

Pro-Biome Fermented Plant Extract (FPE) is great for soils, as a foliage fertiliser (spray) and as a compost catalyst. Black Coffee Organics makes a variety of different FPEs aimed at improving soil and foliage health, on the one hand, and dealing with diseases and pests (in conjunction with IM and IM•5), on the other. A greate deal of research and testing has gone into identifying the properties of various plants as either soild and plant health enhancers or as pest and disease inhibitors. All plant material used is grown organically, much of it by ourselves using a low-till farming appraoch. Black Coffee Organics has the Fermented Plant Extracts available:

For soil and foliage health: using chrysanthemums and sunn hemp to promote healthy nematodes populations, as well as clovers, comfrey, dahlias, marigolds, garlic, African garlic, neem, sage, spiny amaranth and tansys, when available.

For general pest and disease prevention: using anise, geraniums, khakibos, marigolds, myrrh, neem and oregano.

For controlling aphids: using catnip, chives, clovers, coriander, dill, eucalyptus, fennel, larkspur, nasturtiums, peppermint, spearmint, petunias and rhubarb, when available.

For controlling flies and maggots: using wormwood, basil, bay, catnip, dill, eucalyptus, marigolds, hyssop, leeks, lettuce, nasturtiums, onions, peppermint, petunias, radish, rosemary, spearmint, tansys, thyme and tobacco, when avaiable.

For controlling worms: using borage (specifically for cabbages), catnip, cosmos (specifically for mielies), dill, garlic, African garlic, hyssop, nasturtiums, onions, peppermint, petunias, rosemary, rhubarb, spearmint, tansys and thyme, when avaiable.

For controlling flying insects: using camomile, citronella grass, lavender and dill, when avaiable.

For controlling beetles: using chives, basil, chrysanthemums, coriander, dill, eucalyptus, four o'clocks, garlic, African garlic, parsley, peppermint, petunias, radish, rue, spearmint, summer savory and tomatoes, when avaiable.

For controlling mites (e.g. red spider mite): using coriander, dill and tansys, when avaiable.

For controlling slugs and snails: using fennel and rosemary, when avaiable.

For controlling ants: using chrysanthemums, mint, neem, sage, tansys, pennyroyals and wormwood, when avaiable.

For attracting bees: using bee balm, bulbine balm and lemon balm.

You can make your own FPE by fermenting plant material in Pro-Biome Indigenous Microbe Solution for 2 to 4 weeks. As with extending Pro-Biome Indigenous Microbe Solution, the fermentation process is anaerobic and the same process and precautions need to be followed.

Using IM, IM•5 and FPE prophylactically and curatively

Prohylactic Programme: On a weekly basis, alternate between spraying IM (1:250), IM•5 (1:500) and FPE (1:500) onto plants - ensuring that all exposed sections of the plant are reached (top and bottom of leaves and stems) as a disease and pest control preventative measure.

Curative Programme: On a daily basis, alternate between spraying IM (1:250), IM•5 (1:500) and FPE (1:500) onto plants - ensuring that all exposed sections of the plant are reached (top and bottom of leaves and stems) if an outbreak of disease or pests is detected. Do this for 14 days and then revert to the prophylactic programme.
